So I found out Friday I have a kidney stone. I'm figuring one or more of you have experience with them so I wanted to ask how long does it actually take for it to make the journey from kidney to the exit? It's too big to pass so it's going to have to be broken up first, and I know I'm in for a new world of pain. I just haven't heard once it starts moving how long it takes to pass.

Dday: over a period of three days 11/14-16/2012.
EA/PA: ~ 2 1/2 years
EA/beginning PA: ~ 10 months
Hoped I'd never have to add this: Dday #2 11/22/2015 Not sure how far it went yet but have a pretty good idea.

WTH,

In the middle of my divorce I wasn't drinking enough and had one. My first indication was the searing pain. After about an hour of that it was off to the ER for a few more hours in the waiting room. By the time they were ready to see me my brain was saturated by the pain. They gave me something, no I don't remember what, and did an MRI and some other tests. Determined it was a stone and that it should pass. At about that time the pain started to subside. A few hours later it was gone. Never to return.

So for me it was 6-8 hours of intense pain and then a few days pissing in a plastic funnel to catch the stone. At its peak the pain was an 11 on a 1-10 scale. I would not wish that type of pain on anyone, but I know it does vary by the individual. Maybe I was just lucky .

Hopefully you have a milder experience!

It's too big to pass so it's going to have to be broken up first, and I know I'm in for a new world of pain. I just haven't heard once it starts moving how long it takes to pass.

During the 70's, my alcoholic decade, I woke up one morning in intense pain. So being the idiot that I was at the time, I drank some brandy thinking it would go away. It didn't.

A few hours later I was in the emergency room. The doc smelled alcohol on my breath and told me he couldn't sedate me. Yikes!

So I sat on a table behind a drawn curtain and waited for it to pass. "How long will this take, doc?" "You'll know once it happens." As I recall it took about an hour.

More than 45 years later I'm guessing they have more humane ways to get through this ordeal. Hope your pain is minimal.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what not to do.

The kidney stone stories are making me cringe!

How is the bed project coming along, Incarnate?

Good to see you, HFOH. Been awhile! I'm going down the divorce path as well, now, and that's working out best for everyone involved, I think.

Nice looking Incarnate. I'm waiting to expand my shop before I get back to making too much sawdust. Currently all my big woodworking tools are packed in a container.

Yes, Losfer,

Nice parking lot experience. We flew out of town last weekend, and I parked in an off-site parking lot.

After lifetime of having to pay a lot extra because of parking for just over some quantum leap in fees - doesn't that hot everybody? - from check-in to check-out, I parked for 2 days, 23 hours, 58 minutes, and 20 seconds.

I got charged for 3 days. If the plane hadn't arrived early, I would have been hit for at least $5 more. Not a big win, but I'll take it.

Excellent work, Incarnate! Are you happy with the final product?

That's a good win, Sisoon. Five bucks is five bucks, right? How is the hearing aid/music situation going?

Nice work Incarnate! I'm trying to get my shop finished so I can start my endless list of things I want to build.

Thanks for the kidney stone info gents. I go next Thur to get it broken up. Been a hell of a month for WW and I health-wise. I'm ready for January to be in the rearview mirror.

Had to put down my beloved Beagle, Flash, on Saturday the 25th of January. ****ing cancer!!!

Have been checking rescue sites for adult Siberian Huskies and Border Collies. Love dogs and it sucks to be without one right now.

In further news: WW has agreed to a polygraph which will take place on February 20th, her birthday. She fails and I'm done. She passes and we will carry on.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what not to do.

Very sorry for your loss, Mr. K. Flash is in good company with some of the other Menz dogs that have passed over the years.

Do you have experience with huskies? They have some interesting traits that a lot of people can't quite handle, but they are entertaining as hell.

Thanks guys. Yeah, this is a familiar pain for all us pet owners. Flash had a good life. He was 12 years and 9 months old and I figured out he had around 3,500 long walks in the woods with me, plus the best foods and cookies and lots of love and attention.

No, but I had an Alaskan Malamute who I found in a shelter in California. Huskies and Malamutes have some familiar character traits from what I've read. A Border Collie might be a reach for an older guy like me. I've been warned that they will tear up the house if they get bored, and I'm a pretty boring guy.

Mr Kite, I'm really sorry to hear that. I know you said when I lost my girl that you were fighting the same battle, yeah, cancer sucks. I lost both my dogs to it. My boy in the summer of 2017 to complications (pancreatitis) after surgery for liver cancer, a week before I got canned. Excuse me, laid off, made redundant, job was eliminated, whatever you want to call it. His sister was diagnosed with the same cancer in the spring of 2018. I lost her Labor Day weekend last summer, on the 5th anniversary of D-Day. I still miss them both. They're all Very Good Dogs and their time with us is much too short.

it sucks to be without one right now.

It does, but I've decided that there's not any more dogs in my future. But damn it's lonely.
