I can listen to classical music for about twenty minutes before boredom/depression sets in.

...unless it's in the form of a Dream Theater song, I bet.

Ok, I just have to say that his playing the cello immediately made my brain leap to a part of the old Woody Allen movie Take The Money And Run where he talks about having played the cello in his high school marching band.

Cello - nice!

20 minutes - that's funny, Mr.Kite.

I like the romantics. When my W and son (alternative, avant-garde rock, Fugazi, etc.) listen to a Brahms symphony recording for few minutes, they start hassling me with, 'Where's the beat?' Fortunately, W likes Brahms in live concerts.

My record collection is almost totally classical & orchestral. For live music, I'll listen to just about anything - blues, bluegrass, jazz, chamber, orchestral, Indian classical music....

Haven't been able to do blues for the past several years, though, since the music doesn't really get going until after our bed time. Little Walter hit on my W once. I was pretty pissed at him since he was twice her age, and I was standing right next to her. We stuck around to hear the music, though. No point in missing that.

That's what she said.

Little Walter hit on my W once.

I was flipped off once by John Lee Hooker. I was on the freeway heading to San Francisco in my little blue Austin Healey Sprite when a van cut me off.

I honked the horn while pulling up next to the van and screamed obscenities at the driver. He flipped me the bird and laughed. The first clue should have been that on the side of the van it said "John Lee Hooker." Recognized him many years later when I saw his images on the interwebs.

I was thinking more progressive metal, but yeah. I guess the "classical" reference came from my recent focus on Jordan Rudess, who is classically trained. I don't know if you are on facebook or not, but sometimes he does impromptu livestream shows playing his Steinway in his living room, then he will say hi to everyone and give them a shout out if you list where you are from. Cool guy.

WTH - I had to look up that clip on YouTube. May have to show that one to my kid.

Sisoon - Yeah, Brahms is a bit much for me. I greatly prefer the faster and more technical stuff when it comes to most styles of music in general. I can be lulled to sleep by thrash or speed metal, so that slower classical stuff is like quaaludes to me.

Gotta watch out for those blues musicians, I guess!

If you guys like prog rock, especially in the vein of classic Pink Floyd, check out a band called Airbag. They are from Sweden and they write terrific, songs.

There is a very cathartic song they recorded called "Homesick" that has been healing to me during my ordeal with my STBXWW. Check it out on YouTube. The guitar player is sick. He sounds more like David Gilmour than David Gilmour does.

Not quite the accomplishments of you gents, but Neil Peart has passed away. I had the pleasure of seeing Rush a few times in concert, and all I can say is he was the best percussionist I've ever seen. RIP to a legend.

Just ordered some tools to start work on the bad I wanted to make... Went to the specialty lumber store and got some 5x5 Blue Pine beams, two 10' lengths, and had them cut down to 5' so that I could transport them.

I need to finish the planter I'm making for my grandmother so that I can work on my bed conscience free. There's a few things that I've never done before that I'll need to learn how to do, so this should be an interesting project.

How're y'all doing this fine January evening?

Well, I have officially given up trying to salvage my video from my vacation. I've spent two weeks and I'm no closer.

I still record on video tape, in the DV format. For a variety of reasons I've avoided moving into the 21st century.. I like the workflow with tape from shooting to editing, although the importing of the tape into the computer in real time sucks. I've not been a fan of tapeless video cameras since they came out. My DV records in fairly uncompressed format and it stays that way until I render it and take it to the DVD authoring. Until recently it seemed like cameras just didn't have the internal processing power to do the MP4 compression in real time and not get artifacts. And lastly cost. I've got quite a bit invested in my underwater video gear. Now granted its 10 years old. But it was top of the line in its day (which I suppose you could also say about me).

So, I've replaced the camera once already three years ago, with a used one of course, that was in good shape, or so I thought. Six months ago I had really good video. This time I have dropouts all over the place, and broken timecodes. Which caused my editor to spaz out and I have thousands of 1 to 3 second long scenes and I can't really use any of it even if I try and stitch them back together. Because of the dropouts.

I'm not really interested in tracking down another 12 year old used camera that still has life left in it. So.... I am being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. In a fit of annoyance, last week I ordered and have a new Sony 4K HD camera, that records on SD cards... No more tapes.... Now I have to get a new housing, and new ports (cuz I think I want both flat and dome this time), and new lights and and and and ..... it never ends. My bank account is urging me to stop before it's too late.

On the upside, the video from the new camera is awesome and I can't wait to get it underwater. Just stuff I've shot around the house and work and such and burned to a hi-def DVD in 1080p (I don't have a blue ray burner either, just player, so I'm limited to burning about 30 minutes of 1080 to a regular DVD in blu-ray format) is just amazing.... Still learning to master the manual controls on the new camera, but I think it's going to give me a lot better video than the old camera that didn't really have manual exposure control.

I could use some help though. I've finished the first cut and I am on the verge of throwing out all the video I captured last month and saying "sorry guys". I'm just not happy with it. I had to run most of it through a 10 year old program that was more forgiving of broken timecodes. That let me get most of it into the computer, but the dropped frames are still dropped. And in some parts there are compression artifacts from using a 10 year old program. I'm just not happy with the results and could use some uninterested feedback. Are the defects too distracting? Would you watch it anyway? I can't post a link but let me know if you'd like to be a "beta-viewer" and give an opinion

You didn't find the dropped frames and glitches annoying or distracting? I've been sitting here two weeks trying to finish the editing, but every time I try, all I can see are are the dropped frames. And you can see what I used an old program with inferior encoding to get around the worst of it.

Stepped out for the weekend and came back to find another long thread on sex acts with the AP but not the BS.

It’s kinda like turning off the TV yesterday during the Chiefs - Texans game with Houston up 24-0 because your wife asked you to throw out the garbage, and then coming back after 3 minutes wanting to watch those Texans continue to stomp all over the Chiefs and going WTF??!!!

Speaking of football, no Joe Judge comments? I’m cautiously optimistic. Tentatively hopeful. Wow. It’s almost like I have experience with shattered expectations.

From being a Mets fan of course.

Hope everyone is doing as well as can be.

He spent 8 years being taught by Bill Belichick so he can't be much worse than the last two head coaches Big Blue had. The best game of the weekend was the dismantling of the Ravens by the Titans. Wow!

They are very good for such young kids. I like 'em. There is another band I like called Porcupine Tree I highly recommend. They aren't so much rock as more in the vein of Jazz Fusion Rock. Think Dixie Dregs meets Yes.

By the way, R.I.P. Neil Peart .
