I hope someone can tell me what to do, or confirm my disappointment that there's nothing I can do.
I don't know how FB decides which nine pictures show up on your home page (not your news feed) on the left side under the 'Photos' heading. There are a few pictures there that I hate seeing every time I open my home page - in one of them I have a cold sore on my lip, and another one is with me and my three brothers, two of whom have died when I was estranged from them - that picture was taken at my wedding in 1984 when I didn't realize what assholes two of them were.
I've spent a lot of time exploring different editing options to get different pictures. As far as I can tell, the only thing I can do is to to my Photos page, click on the edit button for each picture and choose the delete photo option. But will that delete the photo completely from my FB? I'm afraid if I do it, it will delete it permanently. I don't want to do that - I just don't want it as one of my nine options on my home page.
Suggestions?

I’m not on FB a lot from my laptop or desktop, mostly just my phone, but I think I know what you mean.
Maybe download/save the photos to your computer/phone so you don’t lose them, but then actually delete them from FB?

I’m on FB on my iphone or ipad. What device are you seeing this on? I don’t see my pictures, so not sure if it just displays differently on different devices.

AnnieOakley - yea, I'd thought of that fix, but I don't know what pictures will fill in the ones I want moved out - they may be equally unwanted. I just wish there was a way to move them around.
