So, I've been thinking about getting a VAR for WH's truck. Before I start researching them, are they easily discoverable in a vehicle? This is someone who cleans/vaccuums his truck often. The kids sit in the back. Where in a vehicle did you successfully hide yours?

Depending on the model there might be a light that switches on when recording, or a tone at the start. Depending on the model both can be deactivated. Other than that – it’s about as hard to find as it is hidden. Like... if you use tape to stick it under the passenger seat then he might find it if he peeks there, or if badly stuck to the seat.
One idea if you have a smartphone is to see if you can find a recording app and then conveniently "forget" your phone in his vehicle. Gives a plausible reason for why it’s there conveniently lying under the seat...

I think there is a forum here for technology so you may want to subscribe to it.

One thing I've seen recommended is to put in ear plugs in the jack and cut off the wires so it doesn't start playing back on speaker.

Put SPYCENTRE SECURITY in your browser search
Lots of choices!!!!

Technology has improved immensely since the "portable voice recorder" first became available.

Some is $$$ but all kinds of hardware shaped and sizes -

And - designed to NOT be found easily.

On the web pages is a menu choice "Spy Voice Recorders" - enjoy! grin

I bought one on Amazon. I think it cost under 50 bucks. Worked great. Recording was clear as a bell. It looks like a flash drive so it's not obvious that it's a recorder. I have a bunch of flash drives in drawers or randomly in the house so it never looked out of place.

You just need to figure out how to hide it in the car. Worst case scenario, WH spots it but he might just think its a misplaced flash drive. He'd have to plug it into a computer to see the recorded files.

Take a look on Amazon. I think there are ones that look like pens or other ordinary things that might not look weird if found.
