I adopted a rescue dog last night.A year old black lab named Missy.Found out she was with an old lady with dementia badly that went to a nursing home and her family did not want Missy. My friend Adrianne and her husband rescue dogs and cats that have been neglected and abuse.Adrianne knew I would like Missy and called me.She was right,I liked Missy on the spot and brought her home.Good thing is she is up on her shots and has been fixed so she cannot have puppies.Missy has adjusted to my home well and has a new role, shop dog.I brought her to work with me this morning.Boss saw she would be a good shop dog.She likes me very well and another co worker in the billing department started spoiling her.Gave her a dog treat.

Momma of labs here.
Make sure she is getting plenty of exercise. Labs are typically bred to work and are pretty bright, but if they aren't mentally and physically stimulated, they tend to act up. We have a saying in our home, a tired lab is a good lab. They also are notorious chewers so keep her stocked with real bones they help to keep their teeth clean and stimulate their brains.
I had a nearly 15 yo pass last Sept and her teeth had zero plaque and never had bad breath.
Congratulations on your baby!

My best friend is a black lab...
One major tip:
I have never scolded my dog. I use praise to get the wanted actions and distraction to get him to stop unwanted.
If your pup chews your favorite chair while you are away and when you come home you chew him out, he doesn’t have a clue as to why he’s getting scolded. If however you catch him doing it you can pull him away and maybe make him sit, say hi or whatever. Divert his attention. If he persists, pull him away and do what his mom would do – shun him for a minute. Labs live to please their masters, and shunning him for a minute is like a life-sentence.
Bonus tip: rather than the dinky tennis balls from pet-stores get a can of real tennis balls. They are the only type my lab can’t chew to pieces in less than a minute.

Tennis balls can actually damage a dogs teeth. The coating is abrasive and can also absorb dirt and sand and make them even more abrasive.

Better than tennis balls are Lacrosse balls and get yourself a racquet. You will never have to touch a slobbery ball again. Lacrosse balls are solid rubber so they can't pop them which all of mine did with tennis balls. They also go a lot further when playing fetch. Which I do at least 2 times a day for 10 min at least.
I disagree on the not knowing why they are getting scolded. My black lab would tell on herself with posture and smiling whenever she did something bad. She also would shit on my Hs side of the bed when left home alone and unhappy about it, and it the door to our room was closed she would poop in his spot on the couch. They understand lots more than we give them credit for.
