Visualizing Posters on SI and Classic TV characters

Maybe time for a fun post?

I am a visual person. When I read a book, I assign all characters (In my mind) to an image, usually someone I know in real life or a TV or movie character. I was reading Bigger's thread over in General and he's being jokingly referred to as a 'cat herder.' And one poster said he visualizes Bigger as looking like Fabio. I visualize him at Matt Dillion. smile So I started thinking of regular posters and 'visualizing them.' I know what very few people here ACTUALLY look like - Dragn being one of them. (very pretty lady!)

So do you 'visualize' posters when you read their posts? Or am I the only one who does this?

I see Number4 as possibly a classy Mrs. Thurston Howell (Gilligan's Island) only younger. I 'see" Tushnurse as Ellen Burstyn in a crisp nurse's uniform. I visualize Whatsright as my favorite great aunt. That's just a few of my 'visuals.'

I'm not much of a movie or TV person but I've gotten hooked on classic TV shows which explains my references to characters from those shows. I don't have a lot of time but I AM a YouTube junkie and Classic TV sitcoms are my current choice to watch. smile

As a side note, if you are stressed out and need some relief, give yourself a treat and go watch classic TV comedy such as All in the family, Maude, The Bob Newhart show, Designing Women - just to name a few. They sure knew how to do comedy back then.

If you want 'roll on the floor laughs' - watch the very old Highway Pstrol shows! They are FULL of bloopers and Broderick Crawford is a hoot in those shows. They were very low budget - and my favorite parts are when Police Chief Crawford and his deputy both rush into a police car - both getting int the passenger side car door! I read that was because they only had one camera to film with. laugh

Yes I do this too. Although perhaps not a specific character. I just get an image of what i think they look like in my head.

Actually I saw that not everyone has an inner dialog or "sees" things in their head. Blows me away because if I think "apple" I SEE an apple in my head. And I alwsys have an inner dialog. Always!

I think I've already disappointed Bigger enough that he doesn't post on my threads. He'd kick me off SI if I tried to explain what I picture him as when I read his posts lmao 🤣

As for when I need a laugh I always go to Tim Conway skits or Carol Berrnet.

This post made me smile.

I generally am not an in picture thinker, but I can’t seem to get the characters from Roger Rabbit out of my head now lol

I must be doing decidedly better now since I am able to think about this and smile!

The intent was to bring some smiles. smile

Like Dragn, if I think 'apple' I visualize a juicy red apple and I can almost taste it.

I think SI is a very unique 'community' and while it would be fun to have one huge get-together, it's also nice to 'visualize' our friends here.

Dragn, you are right about Tim Conway and the Carol Burnett show -- who can forget his routines with his 'secretary' ... Mrs. A-Wiggins. I actually know someone that I secretly refer to as Mrs. A-Wiggins. laugh

Tushnurse is more of a Nurse Jackie in my eyes. Whatsright has mentioned her long hair, so I picture the back of someone's body with hair all the way down her back.

Bigger is a guy in a police uniform!

This reminds me of the Taxi episode where Alex (Judd Hirsch) is talking to this woman on the phone on a regular basis. Great chemistry.

They decide to meet in person and she’s overweight. He’s not sure what to do about it.

I think if you see people you have been speaking / chatting / connecting with virtually or anonymously, they don’t look anything like what you imagined.

I think after reading so many posts we all come across as stressed out emotionally devastated betrayed spouses. Not necessarily a "pretty" picture. 🤣

1st wife. I agree. But we always need to look past the sadness, the stress - and talk to our friends here about common, even funny things. Using Dragn as an example, we all enjoy reading her postings about her many animals and how she has to 'herd' them a lot; Also I love it that I can visualize her as a mechanic, fixing her own vehicles. So that is looking past what a horrible time she's having and reminding her (and us) that we are all just people with the common denominator of being betrayed - but we also have normal lives. All of us need to talk about 'normal things and sometimes share laughs. Sharing Laughter is good medicine.

Bwahahahahahahaha!!

I wish I had her money (but not her husband who acts like a petulant child). And I somehow can't see Lovey doing some of the hiking and physical activity that I do. Do I like an occasional obscene luxury (like our 'fancy-damned toilet' we just put in? Sure, but that's more thinking along the lines of down the road when I can't wipe my own butt for whatever reason. But my snowflake-of-a-butt sounds like something Lovey would demand to have in her house.

Anyone here watch Poldark?? I see DragnHeart as Demelza because she's talked of having long red hair, and her character can be rather self-sufficient and independent. And on the show, so much of their lives revolve around living a rather rural lifestyle.

And I think I've shared before that The Golden Girls is my go-to for comedy, but the other shows that Jeaniegirl mentioned are good ones, too. The Mary Tyler Moore show is excellent comedy, too. She knew how to do physical comedy.

Bwahahaha. I'm definitely more of a Nurse Jackie type (without the addiction issue) with an even harder attitude. Kind to patients, but no nonsense behind the scenes and about as foul mouthed as inecan imagine.

Women, except for Texans, all look like the young Sophia Loren. Texans, being blonde, whether they were born that way or not, all look like Sarah Michele Gellar as Buffy (also very smart and sexy, despite being different from Sophia). The North American men, including me, all look like Paul Newman. All other men look like Marcello Mastroianni.

I hope no one thinks I'm over-generalizing.... shocked

I have always pictured Bigger as John Wayne, and Sisson as Sherriff Andy.

Drgn is Sally Field small and mighty.

Jeanie some combo of Viola Davis and my eldest genius niece.

What's Right is a fair proper southern woman like Vivi in the Yaya sisterhood.

I don't do pictures in here but I will tell you that I'm told about once a week how I look just like a younger Barbara Mandrell. I once had to fly into NYC for a conference and was being picked up at the airport by someone I'd not met. She came up to me and said -- you are Jeanie and they said you look just like Barbara Mandrell. laugh I've always been flattered by that but she is probably a much sweeter person than I am. And I definitely can NOT sing! But hey, we both like Jaguars. smile

Hehehe.

I'm chubbier for sure.

Actually gained 6lbs. Yikes!

I've always tied my hair up in a clip or bun (habit from working in a group home where clients like to grab hair).

Now though I'm letting it down and the inner lion/Brave girl is free.

It's not as long as it once was. My mom even asked me if I cut it. Nope. It starts off nice and curly with ringlets but five minutes out of the house the lion mane appears. It's also alot darker (with some white strands) compared to downstairs laugh

I'm covered in freckles and would actually not look so pale if they would all just join up.

I see Bigger as the guy who played in The Rock snd The Green Mile. The big guy. For the life of me I can't remember his name. He played one of the guards in thr green mile and thr second in command to the general who took the rock. Geez. Oh he's also in the Negotiator. I think he also played a doctor on St. Elsewhere? I'll Google it tomorrow. I'm tired.

I absolutely visualize some people when I read their posts, sometimes in a vague way but I have some very specific mental pictures of certain posters (past and present) in my brain but they aren't celebrities so I don't think any of my descriptions would translate that well to others. I like hearing the descriptors that others use though, because it creates mental pictures for me going forward.

For exmaple, as a result of this thread alone, my mental picture of Dragn (who I previously pictured with dark hair) has morphed to something closer to a live-action Merida - who dresses more casually (because, you know... the farm). smile

Part of me isn't sure I'm ready to know the mental picture others have of me. laugh
