Hello..

Anyone here who is in medical field?

Just found out today that I have a heart murmur (above normal?).

My doctor said it is common and nothing but needed further testing such as ECG, echo & holter monitor.

I had a terrible anxiety attack today due to my triggers.

I tried my very best to control it and to not think about it but I failed. This cause me with tremors and eventually hyperventilating and rapid heartbeat/breathes. I thought I was going to die or atleast I thought I was having a heart attack.

Went to see my family doctor and they checked my BP (155/110) and my heartbeat. It was only for a few second and he paused and said "did you know you have heart murmur?" Sooo yeah. I am not prepared for this. 馃槶馃槶

Can someone let me know I should not worry about this too much?

So there are many types of hear murmurs and most are "not a big deal". Do you know which valve it is? Mitral atrial? This could give me enough information on next steps.
Also what is your age? If you are under 50 and no other health risks it will be a monitor thing. If over 50 and any risk factors such as overweight, high BP, diabetes then yes you should ask for an echo and stress test.

What you describe is a full on panic attack and they are scary as hell and you do believe death is immenent. The whole fight flight lizard brain response causes that rapid heart rate and high blood pressure when the even passes often things return to normal and no after effect can be seen. I would encourage you to ask for something to help you manage these episodes. Be very upfront and honest with your dr. There are many options for meds to help you navigate this too.

My DD22 has a very slight regurgitation murmur. She's probably had it her whole life, but no one heard it until she started with her current GP a couple years ago. She has an echo once a year, the cardiologist yells at her to do more cardio, but the crux of the diagnosis was a shrug and the note that she may need a valve replacement 10 years earlier than someone else in similar health.

It probably explains why running makes her a bit extra winded, but mostly there's nothing she needs to do or worry about, they just check on it from time to time.

I'm in mid-30s.
BP is above normal.
Not sure yet which valve. My family dr will refer me to do an echo and ECG so its a waiting game for now.

They gave me anti-depressant meds (Palix?) but I haven't started it yet.

Thank you tushnurse.

Thanks ChewedMeup.

I was thinking that maybe it was just recent due to the anxiety and stress that Ive been dealing with.

Just hoping that my cardiac tests will be normal and no underlying issues there.

I feel like this is a wake up call to take good care of myself more.

AD is probably Paxil, thats the closest off the top of my head from what you posted. It is an SSRI generally effective. Bit if you have another panic attack please call your Dr and ask for something for those. It is hard to stop and shut that caveman response off. In the meantime avoid caffeine, and alcohol. Daily walks do your body and brain more good than you know. It will also help your BP.
Getting extra weight off will help too.
Get the echo and testing done so you can put your anxiety over health to bed.
