I have an older car that we keep around, as a spare car & to haul things in the large rear part.

Well, I needed to run a quick errand, not too far away and chose to take it. Bad idea on April Fool's Day.

On the way back home from where I needed to go and about 2 miles from the house, sitting at a red light, I realized I was hungry, thirsty, needed to pee and that my cell phone needed to be charged. Of course that it when I also noticed the check engine light come on.

Wait. What? I just had it into the repair shop recently to do some major work!!! Really car? At least the same repair shop was about 1/2 mile from that light. The shop looked at it and apparently the car's computer had a glitch. They were able to test the engine component and then reset the computer. Took less than 15 minutes.

At least it ended well. Got back home ok without breaking down. No light again. This car has broken down over the years, at the most inopportune times, with kids in tow, much further from home. I'm going through some other stresses today and I did not need this tacked onto my day. rolleyes

The check engine light can come on for so, so many different reasons (like, even a loose gas cap can set it off). As long as it's not flashing and your car is running/feels okay, it's not an emergency situation.

Glad to hear it was no big deal and just needed to be reset!

I have always believed that putting computers in vehicles was dumb. They are so damn complicated these days ya can't even do your own oil change. Ya ya all thr bull crap about more efficient and whatever. Blah. Give me back the old engines and the vehicles that could hit a tree, not have a dent and keep driving.

Anyways my van kept with the Low Tire crap. Seriously if you aren't going to tell me which tire piss off. I checked all four. All at the same and correct PSI. rolleyes

DH, I agree with you 100%. All the bells and whistle are great until they break and costs you thousands to fix.

I work in a garage, both my bosses have early 2000s cars -- one a Honda, one a Toyota. Super reliable and will keep running forever with maintenance.

As for your tire pressure light -- if all your PSIs are correct (set to what is listed inside the door), good tire pressure light reset procedure + your year/make/model.

I think it had to do with putting my winter tires on. It just suddenly stopped. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Things like a backup camera. Makes people lazy. I have it on thr van. Don't use it. My parents owned a extended dodge van they converted to a family camper. Couldn't see out thr back well, had to rely on the mirrors. I still drive thst way. Also, they don't teach to be aware of YOUR vehicle. How many people really know thr exact # of seconds from thr time an object disappears from view of thr windshield until you hit it...not many!
