I've checked on the county registrar's website for Los Angeles county, and it appears that they don't do copies of divorce certificates or divorce decrees or whatever this is called. I figured I'd have to pay a fee but I didn't think I would get to a dead end.
I've gone round and round in circles with no results, & even sent an email request for more information a few weeks ago but no reply.
Does anyone have any ideas about this, whether it's even available to get?
Also, Is there such a thing as a confidential divorce record between adults? I know there's such a thing as a confidential marriage record between adults (for whatever reason). Thanks for any information!
Hope

what if?
What if they relocated to Nevada and rented a room (I think it is for 60 days) to establish residency and then divorced?
What if they "divorced" somewhere other than "Los Angeles" county?
Possibly a consideration - one of the on-line search engines (for ? $$) to search public records for a person?
I know they work - but one has to filter the results.
There's no troubled marriage that can't be made worse with adultery."For a person with integrity, there is no possibility of being unhappy enough in your marriage to have an affair, but not unhappy enough to ask for divorce."

Are court dockets searchable? search by name. I found all of COW's divorces, paternity and child support cases by searching her name in the court dockets.

I'm pretty sure, 99.999999%, that this occurred in Los Angeles county.
Also, I've done the online searches that want money for findings, from $1.00 to $12.99 (with auto-renew), they only find a court case regarding an auto accident and settlement. Nothing about marriage or divorce records.
Hcsv, when you did your search, was it for Los Angeles County? I'm not coming up with anything for L.A.
Thanks!

Every secret you keep with your affair partner sustains the affair. Every lie you tell, every misunderstanding you permit, every deflection you pose, every omission you allow sustains the affair.

Thanks for the great instructions, Wiseoldfool. It's still a mystery as nothing showed up -- I paid by credit card & got info about court cases involving automobile stuff from 2001.

It’s tough to know what to make of the absence of a "findable" record.
I can tell you this, take it for what it is worth.
I’ve been a divorce lawyer for thirty years. I’ve lost count of the number of times someone, almost always a woman, contacts me to see if I can confirm that the man she is seeing is in fact divorced. More than a few times I’ve discovered that not only is he not divorced, no one has even begun a divorce. Sometimes there is a divorce filed, but there’s been no activity on it for months. This is in spite of the fact that the man has described himself as "divorced."
Every secret you keep with your affair partner sustains the affair. Every lie you tell, every misunderstanding you permit, every deflection you pose, every omission you allow sustains the affair.
