Yes, William, Happy New Year all.

Anyone watching the World Juniors hockey. Canada will be playing Russia and USA vs Finland on Jan 4. If Can and USA both win they will face each other for Gold.

The tournament is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I live 2 hours out. I had put in for the draw for tickets last January but didn't get drawn. Doesn't matter now because no one is in the stands.

NHL starts in a couple of weeks.

Belated Happy New Years gents! Just sobered up. Steadychevy, great Gold medal match. Even in a losing effort I thought McMichael looked great. NHL season should be interesting, but I don't like the "sponsored" conference names. Mass Mutual East Division doesn't quite have the same ring as the Patrick Division, but it does have a lot of the old teams so that's going to be fun watching them beat up on each other.

Hope everyone is doing better than Ohio States D in the first half of the championship game. Or doing as well as Bama's offense No dog in this hunt

Los, I hear you. But re-frame that shit - the year didn't start off rough. The next 364 days from that day started off rough. Hell, bad days happen in June too, but having a bad June 14th doesn't have the same ring to it. Not being monthist either, I'm certain that there are days in the remaining months that could constitute a poor beginning to the next 364 days. And don't get me started on leap years. Moral of the story is we are all here for each other to post solemn, wise words that impart long lasting positive change in those that read them. And post pics of dogs with a beer

Thanks, Tred. Well shit. I didn't realize "monthism" is an actual thing. Had to google it! Learn something new every day. Seriously, though. Excellent and supreme advice. Thank you.

I no longer have dogs, and don't have any plans to get any soon, but I've been adopting squirrels in my yard. I can't get too attached to them, so I name them all "Carl". I did that for the mere pleasure of going out in my back yard and doing my best Rick Grimes impression, and yelling "CARL!!!". Unfortunately I do tend to fatten them up a bit, and then they end up being "Flat Carl", because "Fat Carl" couldn't make it across the street in time to avoid the car. I'll have to figure out a way to get one of the Carls to pose with a beer for a Friday happy hour (pre-mortem, of course, and I'm sure I'm using that term incorrectly, but oh well). Been awhile.

Enjoyed the dog/beer pictures. Will keep monitoring to see if there are any Fat Carl/beer pictures.

I'm not that pleased that all the NHL games seem to be back to back. I understand the reason to minimize travel and potential covid exposure. Not much interaction between the "sponsored" divisions either.

Can't speak much to the NHL stuff, Steady. Wish I were more of a "sports" guy, but some of the bonding I've developed with different fellas here has been through sports.

Early on, when I first became a member, there was some gal, a betrayed spouse, who posted the song "Firework" by Katy Perry. I wish I remembered her name. Either way, it is a kickass song. If any of you get a chance to google it, look for the cover of "Firework" Leo Moracchioli. That's a song that's kind of getting me through right now. And I have to go metal, because that's who I am.

I wish I could say that the recent days in my life have been better, but they aren't. I have called the suicide hotline maybe five times in the past week or so?

Lesson learned. They are like any other call center. They take awhile to pick up the phone because of high call volumes. They are also trained and scripted. Still very supportive people.

If any you guys are feeling as bad I have been recently? Reach out. Reach out to everyone. Trust me on that thought.

Thanks, Steady. Still kicking it on this side of the turf. I have had some rough moments in the '21, but I fully plan on surviving and making my life more drama-free.

Didn't get a beer pic with one of my adopted squirrels, or any pic at all, but the little fella (or gal) trusted me enough to take a brazil nut out of my hand today. That was super cool. It's the little things in life.

I'm rooting for the Bills this weekend.

Happy Friday, Gents!

Interesting beer. I mentioned a beer from a monastery in France a couple of years ago. I don't remember the name of it. The double amber was real good. I don't post pictures. Technologically and intellectually incapable. I'll see if I can find your brand and give it a try.

Thanks guys. I think if I can get my foot in the door, I'll have a good shot...

a beer from a monastery

This monastery has supposedly been brewing beer since like 1000 AD or something according to their story.

I'll see if I can find your brand and give it a try.

I really liked it when I was living in Germany, and was very surprised when I found it around here. The store advertises "Beer from around the world" but around here that usually means they have both Corona and Heineken. It's an unfiltered wheat beer, if you like that... "Hefe" is yeast, which I think gives it body... I took some to a little get-together a couple weeks ago and most didn't want to try it because "it's all cloudy"

It's been a minute since I've checked in, y'all. I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected. I just got rudely awakened by one of my ex's friends coming into my home at 11:00 while she was at work and having a noisy conversation with my eldest daughter.

Good to hear from you again, Incarnate. How does her friends have access to your house when she's not there (or even if she is)?

The beer I tried, tbjkcn, was Grimbergen. Established 1128 AD. I've only tried Double Amber and Blonde. I like the Double Amber better than the Blonde. They have others but have only tried those two.

Well, it's been an eventful couple weeks. I finally got the word that I scored a first interview. Had a very good phone call with the dept head. Several times he commented on "but you already know that" and "I'm sure you remember so-and-so" and "I was pretty excited to see on your resume that you worked here for so long, you'd be able to jump right in with both feet" while we were talking about the department and job responsibilities. He was going to "finish the first-interview process and decide who would get called back." Still feeling pretty positive, even though it's been almost two more weeks without getting called about a second interview.

Had my 56th birthday, AARP sure has stepped up with their mailings the last couple weeks... I'm really, really not ready for that but they won't take the hint...

Bought a new-to-me car. It was overdue, but I really didn't want to be putting almost 400 miles a week on a new car. But like I said it was overdue. My '09 had almost 178,000 miles. so I traded it on the same car, same trim, but ten years newer. Did it pretty much over email and then went to inspect it and sign the papers last Saturday. The F&I guy wasn't even too terribly pushy, even though he did take almost an hour with me insisting that I didn't want the ceramic paint protectant and the third-party warranty. My God, the tech advances they've added in those ten years . There's things "included" that back in 2009 you'd have to go with a car that cost $20k more for. I am totally enamored with pressing the start button in the morning and going out to a warm, defrosted car with warm seats . And the adaptive cruise control with lane-following makes the commute not as bad while I listen to a podcast with the CarPlay

Congrats on the new car. The technology is great.

I assume you know about sing ACC in stop and go traffic. If you don't, it can be great in that sitch. I've never been able to rely on it totally, but I've gone close to 10 miles in mainly stopped traffic without touching accelerator or brake.

The only downside I've had is 1) in stop-and-go traffic that clears, all of a sudden I can be going 45 in a 25 mph zone, 2) on the highway when I get behind someone going 50 in a 70 mph zone...everything seems fine, by my trip will take longer than it has to.

Some people complain of slowdowns on curves with barriers, but my 2018 Prius seems to have solved that problem. A 2019 version should be at least as good as mine, no matter what brand you bought.

Happy birthday!

Good luck with the interviewing!

I've gone close to 10 miles in mainly stopped traffic without touching accelerator or brake.

Sigh, I haven't been able to trust it all the way to a stop yet. There's a small town with a 4-way stop that I have to pass through on the way to and from work. If I'm following someone, the car slows down on it's own as I come into town, I can feel the braking increase as the car in front of me comes up to the stop sign, and as the car gets closer to the stopping car in front of me, something in the back of my brain screams "There's a stopped car in front of you and your foot isn't on the brake!" . I'm sure that part of it is that I was a code monkey for almost 15 years, and I don't trust it .

on the highway when I get behind someone going 50 in a 70 mph zone...everything seems fine

I've been caught by that a few times, it's so subtle and then I discover that for the last 5 miles I've been following a car going 15mph slower than I want to.....

Some people complain of slowdowns on curves with barriers

I've read about the collision braking system coming on in circumstances like that, but I haven't experienced anything like it yet. And we have more than our share of really tight onramps with guard rails and barriers, so, I'm thinking the software folks have made improvements. What I have had several times is having the dash light up with half a dozen warning messages and beeping because all the safety systems just shut off because the front radar got iced over from slush and spray coating the front of the car in ice. And with the radiator grill closed at highway speed there isn't any heat coming from the radiator to melt it..... Once I get off the highway and the grill shutters open back up it seems to melt pretty quickly.
