WHat Would You do

Coming here for collective wisdom.
We had a question on an electronic message that popped up after an outside company did an oil change on our car.
We couldn't fix it so decided to go to the dealer. We saw the service manager. He was very helpful. he checked the car, fixed the message problem and then offered to put the car through the car wash.

He noted that the inspection was due in a couple of months. There was no charge for anything. We were extremely grateful as we have had snow over the last couple of weeks. Bearing in mind that we had just got back from a trip to a Caribbean country where you have to tip for everything, my BH wanted to give the man a tip. I also wished to express gratitude, but as he was the manager, I was not sure that that would be appropriate.Anyway reluctantly I got out a $20.00 bill and asked him to give it to his favorite charity. He was a little taken aback.

Bearing in mind that my spouse is in the early stages of dementia, and in denial, I felt that it was the easiest thing to do. He has no idea what day of the week it is and will ask me the same question several times a day, but when he does get something stuck in his head he will not let go.

This is the question
BH now wants me to buy the Manager a bottle of the best whisky and send it to him with a little note to say how grateful we are.My idea would have been to get a gift card for one of the restaurant groups so he could go out for a meal. We don't know anything about the guy and for all we know he may have religious restrictions or be a recovering alcoholic. ANY SUGGESTIONS

Random questions on daily puzzles

I have not posted anything for a long time so this format is new to me. I look forward to Friday pictures and Off topic is a fount of information

There are things that come up in daily life that I have no guidance on and forget to ask about. Are there things that come up in your daily life that you have no answer to? At the moment mine are ---

1 What do you do with the nickels, dimes, calendars, etc that come from charities, unsolicited in the mail. Do you feel bad and guilty if you don't respond. Do you use them? Do you throw them away?

2 Why do they say drain the liquid from canned red beans? Looks to me as if it might be good soluble fiber, or is it bad for you?.

3 Why can't I find a shoe repair shop within 10 miles of my house. Does no-one get their shoes repaired any more?

4 I had Covid recently, 4 months after I was after I was vaccinated. I am told I should not get the booster until after 3 months now. However, I was asked if I wanted the regular flue vaccine. Has anyone checked to see if this is really a good idea, and how does that affect the booster. They are both a kind of flue.

I'll be interested if anyone has the answers and if other similar issues come up in your lives. grin

Shoe story

My BH does things by the extreme. If it says 3 of anything he will do six. Also, he always has to be right.

I told him that he could wash sneakers in the washing machine. So he did. Then he asked how they should be dried. I suggested he do as I do and put them on top of the water heater. It is fully insulated, so not hot, but is warmer than the surroundings.

Later, I asked him how it worked out. Sheepishly he said he thought the water heater was not fast enough so he put them in the dryer, on hot, with the rest of the whites.

Unfortunately, it melted the hot melt the soles were stuck on with and the sneakers came out sole-less.
